Hey Everyone,
It is time for a new round of the training group. If you haven't received an invite before, please check out the summary below. I had a suggestion from theruffian: Those who are participating should identify what areas they excel in and can perhaps teach their partner. Conversely, each participant can let his partner know his weak points and try to focus on those. Also, I will probably shift this to having pairings once a month. 6Max players should post in this thread with their stakes and a brief intro. HU players should do the same in this thread. I have also started a skype group for the training group, it is not very active but might help. If you haven't already, add me on Skype (jesse_foster) and I will add you to the group. If you would like to be removed from the mailing list, please let me know. Please respond soon and we can get started. Thanks,
Jesse
Summary
What it is: A training group to help connect students together, so that they can collaborate and help each other improve.
Who will be in it: All past, current, and potential students. Also select non students will be allowed to enter, but only after having been screened by me.
Structure: Every month participants will be paired with someone new, based on a random selector. This group will contain a mix of Micro-Midstakes players. I will have two separate groups, one for 6m, one for HU. I will create a skype group and add all members of the group.
It is likely that you will be sometimes paired with someone who is way above or way below your skill level. If you're paired with someone way above your skill level, be happy! You are getting free insight into the game. If you're paired with someone below your skill level, look at it as an opportunity to help someone else. Tutoring others is highly rewarding in my experience. Also, we can always learn from others, be it from their mistakes or the strengths! Those who are participating should identify what areas they excel in and can perhaps teach their partner. Conversely, each participant can let his partner know his weak points and try to focus on those.
I will create a new thread every month with the new pairings. The participants will be contact each other on their own. Each participant will make at least 30 minutes of video. Each pair can either set a time and meet on Skype to watch/discuss the videos, or they can share their videos with each other using youtube or filemail.com. If the second option is selected, participants will record a voice over analysis of their partners play. Feel free to go in depth, essentially each participant will be a coach for one session. If a pair would like to do a different type of session such as HH review, Classroom, or Livesweat, this will work as well, just work it out with your partner
A couple of rules:
1. This is an academic atmosphere, act accordingly. That means treating others and there ideas with respect. I doubt we will have problems, but it is best to state this at the beginning
2. If your partner attempts to contact and you do not respond and work out something within the month, you will be booted from the group.
3. Keep your mind open and look for opportunities to learn!
